Double Solitaire Earrings in Black & White

Double Solitaire Earrings in Black & White

Acrylic and cubic zirconia earrings with sterling silver hooks. Designed and made to order in our Sydney studio.

The acrylic is laser cut and engraved with JOAO VAZ.

These earrings make use of a combination of two traditional stone setting techniques: 'claw setting' and 'tension setting'. The stones are pressured in place exclusively by the acrylic (tension setting) without the use of glue or any other material, and is flanked on all four sides by the acrylic (claw setting) creating a front view cross effect.

These earrings use 2 types of stone cuts. The princess cut is a fairly recent stone cut and the second most popular diamond cut after the 'round brilliant'. It has its origins in the early 'French cut' combining a high degree of light return with a distinctive square shape. The cushion cut, which were common in the 18th century, is also sometimes referred to as 'pillow cut' or as 'candlelight cut' in reference to being created prior to electric lights, when diamonds sparkled in candle light.
