Final Major Project - 2004 Project Brief: Using the knowledge and skill you have gained over the past 5 terms, produce a large body of work that fully explores and expands a theme or concept in an area of design you have previously developed and are interested in professionally. Analyse and refine personal design concepts and quality of representation in three dimensions. Develop the realisation, articulation and manufacture of artefacts appropriate to professional standards of design, construction and commercial viability. Continued use of project base as means of practical and applied research.
I needed and was determined to be happy at every stage of the project and didn't produce a portfolio because I wanted to focus my time and creativity only on the jewellery. To be able to develop my spontaneity I agreed to finalise the shapes, colours and materials not in the beginning but throughout the production of the pieces. The development of the work was done using only maquettes as I felt drawings were restraining my imagination and three-dimensional vision. The pieces were constructed by overlapping elements, which were insignificant individually, but valuable together. I decided to use this technique to recreate the distinct layers in music tracks, which, when together, create a complete landscape of sound. The elements were inspired by textile patterns. The final pieces create forms that translate beautiful human movements. The colours, as well as the materials, illustrate the basic organization of nature, the green metal background filled with colourful clay elements and pearls. The body of work was not completed by the project's deadline. This only happened a year later. |
