Multiple Production Project - 2003

Project Brief:

Research into and design a product for limited production aimed at a specific audience.

Develop original designs which are possible to realistically batch produce at college.

Explore manufacturing methods appropriate for the production of 10 units.

Design work that is commercially viable.

I was trying to develop a more pragmatic approach towards the project requirements along with the necessity to restore the confidence in me and my imaginative work. I craved for spontaneity and freedom during the design process and being able to allow this freedom to continue to exist during manufacture. To achieve this I organized a group of elements based in Portuguese jewellery: the heart shaped form, chains and the visible use of safety pins. It was only in the end of the manufacturing process that I decided how to assemble the elements together.
